Is it necessary to wash apples bought from a supermarket?
I can understand washing apples straight from the orchard but store bought apples seem to be clean and free of dirt

Why might you want to wash apples bought from a supermarket? Because they have pesticides and other chemicals on the skins that could be washed off? Because the skins could have been exposed to e-coli and other fecal based bacteria? Because customers walking around the fruit section of the supermarket may have sneezed or coughed or otherwise coated the skins of fruit with airborne bacteria and viral material... But if the fruit looks clean then it must be. Right?
