Very strong/burning alcohol smell after fermentation

So here's some background: we switched from plastic buckets to SS Brewtech Brew Buckets. I did not soak them in TSP, as directed by SS, so maybe that's my answer. BUT, we've done 3 fermentations in them and experienced an extreme burning sensation while inhaling a whiff from the top of the beer after taking off the lid for the 1st time. It literally burns my nose. The beer tastes and smells fine after kegging, but the first few whiffs are something I've never experienced before. One beer was a neipa, another was a pale ale and the third was a scottish ale. All different yeasts, all temp controlled. Any thoughts?
