I have an old Avanti kegerator that I'm turning into a fermentation chamber. Is there anything negative to turning it off when I'm not using it? Let's say I go an average of 3-4 weeks between the end of one fermentation to the start of the next. Will I save the life of the compressor by simply keeping it off?

I would be concerned about molds and bacteria growing in a now warm and dark sealed environment but that is me.

I could always leave the door open, or probably put some damprid in there for that. I just didn't know if there is more stress on a compressor having it turn on after being off for extended periods of time.
