Trying to come up with a good base recipe for a lite lager which I can build on later, and just wondering if it will almost be too bland.

Steep 5.0oz CaraPils for 30.

Boil

0.5oz Saaz [3.75 %] - Boil 60.0 min
1lb DME Golden Light (Briess) [Boil for 15 min](4.0 SRM)
3.3lbs LME Pilsen Light (Briess) [Boil for 15 min](2.3 SRM)
4oz Corn Sugar (Dextrose) [Boil for 15 min](0.0 SRM)
1 Whirlfloc Tablet (Boil 15.0 mins)
0.5 Saaz [3.75 %] - Boil 6.0 min

SafLager West European Lager (DCL/Fermentis #S-23) [23.66 ml]
3.2 ABV, 1.009 FG .. 11 IBUs ..

.... something light to drink while I am working in the yard.

That's the shortest boil time I've ever seen. Personally I would go with more hops, but I know that wouldn't be to style, but that's how I like it

I'd leave out the CaraPils, since there is already some in the Golden Light DME. Other than that, you've got an easy drinker on your hands. Are you able to ferment at lager temps, or are you going to ferment this more at ale temps?

For me, it is. I'm not trying to say that it would hurt your recipe to leave it in there, but to me, a lite lager really doesn't benefit from adding more dextrines to the mix - they just make it less "lite"
