So I am getting ready to brew my second beer using a yeast starter. However, my house sits at about 57-60 F right now (yes it is cold in here! oil is expensive!) which is much colder than my last attempt and too cold for a good fermentation. I fermented my last batch in a keg bucket filled with water and a aquarium heater, which kept the carboy at about 68 F.

Any ideas how I can get my starter temps up? Thanks!

Sometimes I put my starter right next to the boiler near a bare radiating copper pipe. It's a few degrees higher there.

If you are using a stir plate they frequently warm the starter, mine does so by about 10-15F. If not the top of your hot water heater is usually warm - thats where I used to start my smack packs in the winter before I went to starters.
