I have a 10 gallon Brugear kettle. The thermowell that came with it is about 6" into the kettle. Its far enough into the kettle that it is a pain to try to get my IC into the wort. Instead of buying a shorter thermowell, I was thinking about trying to get it cut down to a more manageable length. So the question is, does it need to stick that far into the kettle? The way the Triclamp is, the end of the thermometer is only into the kettle by an inch or two. Is there a reason not to have it just long enough for the thermometer?
