The use of clarifiers such as gelatine ... biofine ... silica gel causes damage to foam retention ?

and hinder the formation of foam

What do you think?

It does not. I have never experienced any damage to foam retention from any clarifier/fining agent I have ever used. But maybe there are some I haven't used that damage foam retention.

thanks...and what about foam formation ?

Just checked my copy of Foam, which says filtering can be bad for foam, as are bentonite and papain. No evidence of problems from silica (Biofine), PVPP (Polyclar), or prolyl endoproteinase (PEP.) Isinglass purportedly removes lipids from beer as well, and helps foam retention.

No mention of gelatin.
