Ended up at that Altstadt launch event last night. I liked the lager and the kolsch in the bottle and I'd buy em (wish they were canned). Lager on draft had noticeable diacetyl unfortunately.

Yeah the Kolsch was by far my favorite of the two. I'm curious what the price point will be, maybe 6.50-7.99 a sixer? I got DMS (creamed corn) on the draft lager aroma, and a whole bunch of diacetyl, acetaldehyde flavor. Strange that the bottle didn't have any. Made me wonder if they were offloading bad kegs.

Pretty impressed with the marketing and swag. Yeah, definitely something off with the draft lager (see above). My wife liked the kolsch... there's almost no bitterness at all in it (which will probably go well with non-craft drinkers). I wonder if they expected a bigger crowd or if there was a bigger crowd earlier. Somebody told me they went through 200 pizzas (and it was pretty good pizza from Gino's East).

Overall, it's just like I think they will do well if they stay in the the $7-$8 (or lower) low-tier craft category.

Their bottles also have fancy-pants laser etched "best by" dates on them. $$$$.

EDIT: This is their brewing setup. ******* fancy. Look at dat automation. Them copper kettles.

Stupid TABC....

jeffstuffingsjk , didn't the TABC approve Red Atrial, Imperial Cabinet, and Danish Metal? How were those ok in their eyes but Elements of Composition isn't?

Don't those collabs establish some type of precedent? TABC just seems like a bunch of hypocrites at this point.

Don't those collabs establish some type of precedent? TABC just seems like a bunch of hypocrites at this point.

I was talking with Jeff about this last night... he seemed really irritated about it. I think there's just a lot going on at the TABC right now with the legislature in session and they're being really especially strict about everything in the code (which, as we know, can be determined/interpreted on a whim by a single agent from the whole Cuvee/Crowler debacle).

I'm wondering if they'll just slap a standard DeGarde label on it and be done with it. That would probably be the quick solution, but wouldn't actually fix the problem with the decision.

I'd pinpoint Pinthouse Pizza and Austin Beerworks as your two must-dos other than JK. If you like IPA, Pinthouse is your embassy.

I can't ******* believe it!" [that was more relevent before 2013 when the Ale/Beer label divide existed and breweries didn't sent their beer here because of it, Andrew. Part of the reason is that they want as many threads as possible to create as many clicks and ad views as possible. I got a warning years back for creating a thread in the beer releases section for Funk Metal and I knew that place sucked so I just stuck to the Southwest forum from then on cause it was fine. Now the whole thing sucks.

That "Dankest Texas IPA" thread has some of the stupidest comments I've ever read. Literally people conplaining about a several week old IPA falling off.

If you're in Austin, Barks for Beers is back in May with their 30 pints for $20 charity "Pawsport" this year. If you visit breweries as much as my wife and I it's well worth your investment (and it helps service/therapy dogs in the local area).

We're on #2 right now...

Just ask at a participating brewery. You also get a pint glass.
