What's the verdict? Thinking of going tomorrow
Meh.

I'd give them a couple months.

Pretty nice taproom though. Only their 4 "core" beers are available.

IPA was pretty malty.

Porter thin and looked like cola.

They >could< improve???? They had like 20 tap handles so, I suppose, by opening day (1/28) they could have more beers on.

I dunno. Pours are $5. It's not a huge commitment to just go and check it out.

The fact that it's Day 2 and they already had beers Barrel aging... and the core beers weren't already spectacular was sort of alarming. Ha.

Huge 30bbl system in there. You can tell they're well financed.

As far as living wages and the restaurant biz go, read the articles about CA and their issues with the rising minimum wage recently. Most are starting to impliment a 3% surcharge for "government mandated expenses" and so far the wages have only gone up $0.50. Imagine what happens when the other $4.50 kicks in.

That's essentially what every other developed (and developing!) nation on earth does; just means you won't have to pay as much in tips anymore.

And service generally suffers. I've never been impressed with the service at a restaurant who's done it.

I checked them out today. Hopefully the future will be better

New Belgium does the same in their taproom and their service is always spectacular.
Aren't they all partial owners? They have a stake in the company. Which is different than a server earning an auto 20%. Different motivation and buy in from emloyees.

There aren't that many places that don't do tipping and include a service fee. So the same size is small. But I do object to 20% being the new minimum standard.

Damn. This is a fine coffee beer.

$6.99/6pk at H-E-B right now too.

Grabbed a few beers as ABW today. Double Unicycle (Collab with New Belgium) was damn good... Really looking forward to it being released. Cans themselves are beautiful as well. They told me 600 cases (same as Sputnik). Also heard another wave of Bloodwork Orange should be released very soon.

Also... Get your ass out to ABW, so many beers on tap. At least 20-25 by my count.

My wife and I are there almost every Friday night. Say hi sometime!

All out of El Sputniko tho. I heard they're kegging 1 last batch of Sputnik this week though, so maybe we'll get some more.

Will do. Seems like I'm out there about once a month. Even with the new taproom pricing, still one of my favorite places to grab a beer.

If the new tap room pricing is allowing them to have more beers on tap (which I've been noticing has been happening), I'm all for it.

From my brief and limited experience, /r/Austin is one big dumpster fire
Hahaha, hilarious. The Pizza Port model is pure gold, they have 5 locations and are making bank. If I were to ever open a brewpub, that's what I'd do. Except most of the PP do have an area that's more of a bar, somewhat seperated from all the tables.

Never been and prolly won't go after reading that. Lmao. Nothing's more worse than hipster parents.
It's fine as long as you go after 8pm in my experience *shrug*

We usually will start Fridays at Austin Beerworks and end up at the North location at about 9:30pm. Place is usually not balls to the wall by then.

Yep, early in the day or anytime after 8-9 is the time to go if you wanna avoid mobs of shrieking kids.

I just read about half of that thread and I'm pretty sure that the people complaining the people with kids are self-entitled ******** are, they themselves, entitled ********.

If you wanna escape kids altogether there's always the Draught House down the road. Literally never seen a child there, lol.

Dude I was at DH Sunday. Those little fuckers infiltrated the place. One climbed up a big bush out front and was screaming from the top for 5min.

Oh, I really enjoy a good "kids shouldn't be at a brewery" bitchfest. It's so neat to hear younger people explain why your life is forfeit once you have kids. I didn't read it, but I assume that's what's going on based on you guys' comments.

"I'm 21-25, and I hate kids because I'm so metropolitan and worldly. Having kids is so banal and establishment"

Same person 5-10 years later: "I don't see the problem with bringing my kids if it's not a bar-like environment. I've been frequenting that brewery since you guys were in middle school!"

Being a good person and by extension, being a good parent, is the real point here. Keep the rowdy ass kids disciplined ffs.

Somehow, apparently that is too much to ask.

Right, but this should apply to all public places. The cool kids contend that a brewery should be some child free zone where they are free to talk about their new gluten-free scarf as profanely as necessary.
