I'm still up in the air but I need to get this grain boiled up so it doesn't go bad. I'm thinking guiness clone with a backbone.

Hey guys,
I was just going through my mail and I got a Groupon about a deal at a Children's Museum in Easton and the light went on. A few of you have said you will be bringing the SWMBO and assorted spawn. It might buy you few extra hours at Masdtoberfest if you can break up the day for them.

Please understand that I'm in no way implying that SWMBO's and Spawn are not welcome. They absolutely are, (Do you REALLY think I'd say I don't want a bunch of MILF's to come?). BUT, I've been there and know what the attention spam of a two year old is. (About five minutes longer than Yeager's.)

So be smart, and look smart. Plan some options for SWMBO and the spawn.

Looks like the weather is going to be spot-on perfect. Mid-60°s and sunny; I can't think of better brewing (and drinking) weather than that.

I Just smoked a brisket for this party. Cooked it for 14 hours on the smoker. Its in the freezer now and will be on PTN's smoker around noon Saturday. Needs about another 3 horus and you will say it is better than the pig PTN is smoking, but maybe not as good as the broccoli Cape is bringing.

So I'm just talking to Nancy, I mean Yeager, and he's telling me he wants to brew an extract batch cause it's too much work to load 'all my gear' in the SUV to getit here. Honest to God!

If he really were Chuck Yeager airplanes would fly at a brisk walk! What a Nancy!

If you (whomever) are brewing I'd recommend getting here by noon so you dont run out of daylight. If youare not brewing get here whenever, but know that there are two "Prime Drinking Times.". When people show up and break out the good stuff they brought, and after midnight when people break out the stuff they held back. For instance, I dont break out the shine till well after midnight. Adjust your day accordingly.

Well I have gone from about 98% likely being there to about less than 25%. I am waiting to get an MRI and official diagnosis but I screwed up my knee pretty bad the other day. Doc thinks it is a torn meniscus and/or possibly a partial acl tear. It hurts like hell and I really don't think I would be able to make an 8 hour drive like it is right now.

Who knows though, it might just end up not being a tear and I wake up in a couple days feeling fine.

Just talked to Data...

"Oww Oww Oww!! There we were on the center ice line of the pitch in the Ultimate Frisbee World Championship when the cornerback for the other team laid down a bunt and I went into the scrum and this dirty bastard chop blocked me!"

"Uhhhhhh, are you OK?"

"No. I had a colonoscopy today and I talked them into doing another tomorrow and the day after."

"I thought you said it was your knee?"

"What's your point?"

"You would really get along with Yeager."

So Masstoberfest might be me and the_bird splitting a sack of White Castles sliders and a six pack of 'Gansett.'

Party on, Wayne!

*******! You said that was a private conversation and the whole scope thing wouldn't be mentioned on here.

Oh, and I talked to the Dr. he agrees that practice is always a good thing but he didn't seem interested in taking you up on your buy on get one free idea.

Aw, that's no big thing. I trashed half the meniscus in my left knee about ten years ago. With the knee literally locking up I tried to convince the alleged "specialist" that it was more than just an MCL sprain but the nitwit doc still wouldn't even order x-rays, and put me in a walking cast for two weeks.

So, two weeks later, when it was still totally effed, he finally relented and got some pics. Et voila! The entire anterior meniscus was toast, it was then two weeks too late for any chance of successful surgery. I should've sued the idiot back into med school.

Skiing and senior league soccer was pretty much over but other than that I'm still mobile enough to run around with my grandkid. Certainly can brew beer!

Man up, dude ;)

Cheers!

Cool. So it will be you, me, Capp and the_bird. We're down to 37.5 pounds of BBQ'd pork apiece. (Actually, Alice will probably eat a small sandwich or so just to be polite so it's really not that bad.)

I just threw the rest of my chips and guacamole into the trash. I ain't eatin' again till Saturday.

Nah, I know you and a ton of other folk are coming, I'm just practicing my ball busting technique.

Hey, it is what it is. Family always comes first. If you subjugate your family's best interests to come to a stupid beer blast with your internet friends then you're not the sort of person I want to hangout with. Beer and BBQ are important but fade to insignificance in the big picture. Hell, I hope everyone can make it to Masstoberfest. But if you have an issue with your job, or your kids, or your bleeding hemorrhoids (that last one was for you Data... Ooops, I promised I wouldn't say anything. Sorry!....) then do what is really important.

Masstoberfest will survive all of you fools. It has a life of it's own and will keep on truckin'. If you can't make this year's pahtay then come next year.

(Not you Shecky. I don't want to hear any crap about your reunion. the_bird nailed it, why hang with a bunch of dudes you haven't kept in touch with for 25 years? Come drink and brew with the guys you hang with daily.)

... I actually almost did have to bail because of family commitments. One of my wife's old students, a girl she had gotten really close to, died a month or so back of a heroin overdose. Wife used to teach at a real small private school for needy kids (ADD, etc), and my wife being the kind of person she is, she'd gotten real close to this girl and a couple other students over the years. Gabs had even come out to our wedding and did a reading. Good kid, a real needy kid but a real good kid who made some bad decisions and attached herself to some people she shouldn't have.

Anyway, there's an ash-scattering ceremony for her on Saturday morning, up in P-town, and Wife wanted to go. But (lucky for me, I suppose), they did another ceremony at the old school this past week, so she got her "closure," got to say a few words about Gabs, got to see her family and pass on her condolences, all of that.

But, I was real close to either having to bag this weekend, or only being able to stop by for a little while on the way back through.

That sucks, Bird. I'm glad your wife is the kind of person who really makes a difference in kids' lives, but it must be crushing for her when something like this happens.

I'm coming NEXT year (unless I go to NHC in Seattle, that is). You will have to have fun without me this year.

Take lots of pictures, especially of the food.

Well, on an upbeat note, I just left Babalu. He spent the morning doing his usual physical therapy then he practiced getting into and out of Maureen's car. He was able to do the transfers without too much difficulty, and do she will be able to bring him on Saturday without the expense of renting a chair car.

She played catch with him for a while, I took a video of it on my phone. BUT... Because I'm a stupid old man I have no idea how to get the video from my phone onto this site. If anyone can tell me how (using small words and going very slowly, pretend you are talking to a particularly backwards small child) I'll put it up.

We played poker for a while and I'm glad we weren't playing for money, he kicked my ass. I dealt for a bit but after he kept cleaning my clock I made him deal. He was able to shuffle and deal slowly but without too much trouble. It was a very nice visit.

Thats really great to hear. Sounds like he has been making a ton of progress.

Hope that you realize I was just busting your chops. Hey, if you are hurt you are hurt. I'm the biggest baby in the world when I'm hurt. If I cut my fingernails too short I want IV dilaudid and a lot of it. Take care of yourself and come if it doesn't hurt, ya Nancy.

Oh, I wouldn't expect any less. Hell, I might not want to come next year if you didn't give me **** about it.

Also on an upbeat note...

Having dinner with the_Family last night. My daughter goes to me, "Daddy, let's having a drawing contest!," except she kind of mumbled "drawing" so that it sounded like she said "Daddy, let's a drunk contest!"

So, I laughed and told her that wasn't until this weekend. At which point my wife told her that I was going to Boston to drink a lot of beer and get stupid.

"OK Daddy, just don't get TOO stupid."
