This just appeared in my email inbox today. Anyone ever tried it? How much do you use? It’s $24/oz.

Edit: I found the manufacturer’s web page and there is lots of info there, a 1/2 ounce of their product equals 1 lb of T-90 pellets in dry hop. So about 1ml =1 oz of dry hops? They also advise adding it to the brite tank so I guess for home brewing it would go in the keg. They also are saying it reduces the chance of oxidation.

yeah i wasnt sure if they were new but i gues they are or at least on a homebrew scale. but since i posted they are selling out fast at morebeer.

it appears the quantum series is meant for boosting aroma . i think it is derived only from hops.

and the omni is for flavor . and it is made of purified plant compounds that have the exact same IR signature as the chemicals in hops . i think .

this is very new tech it seems.

it also was orignally designed to make weed extracts and terpenes and was applied to hops for brewing.

i think it only very recently became available in small sizes.

i like the idea of adding it to a glass. its also a good addition to kit brewing.

i dont understand the oxidation issues. because i imagine once you open the vial it would be subject to oxidation and in that case you would have to use it all in one go?

I added 3 ml to a 5 gal keg and it smelled fricken awesome. The taste was good , aroma was better but faded like you would expect a dry hop addition to. The first beer i used them on I omitted the whirlpool hops, that was a mistake since the extracts mostly enhance aroma, some flavor but not what I was expecting. the second one was very good,6 weeks later and extract bottles were opened. Can you smell oxidation? I couldn't, that awesome smell when kegging was still present.

The oxidation I was talking about in my post was when you open your fermenter and chuck in the dry hops. You’re also adding a small amount of oxygen, which of course could cause some oxidation problems. Note that I’ve been brewing for years and never noticed any problems when using dry hops, but others with more knowledge on the subject indicate that the oxidation issue is a real thing. Adding the hop extract instead seems like a better method to me.
I haven’t heard anything about the hop extract itself having oxidation issues. Is that something in their literature?

when you open a pack of hops they are exposed to oxygen and i always thought they start to oxidize and go bad. thats why i vacuum seal any remaining pellets then put them back in the fridge. i assume the extract would also get oxidized but it is only an assumption.

Is there a similar manufacturer that sells continental hops extract as hallertau or saaz?

i just ordered the omni citra and the quantum galaxy extracts. they still had a bottle of the northern tropical (mosaic) on sale so i got that too.

i will add a little of each to 3 diferent 4 liter oxebar kegs and then purge and rack a lightly hopped (no dry hops) pale ale on top of it to see how it affects the flavor/ aroma of the beer.

after ordering i noticed this:

Storage: We strongly recommend leaving Quantum Brite unopened in a cool, dark place until ready for use. For absolute best results, use within 3 months of receiving but, when stored in the original sealed container under recommended storage conditions, the shelf life can be 1 year. It is recommended to use the full contents in one use. If storing after opened, keep refrigerated and, if possible, purge with inert gas to preserve the delicate aromatic compounds. Use opened product within 1 month. Storing them improperly will result in aroma degradation. Similar to whole cones or pellets, the more you open and expose it to air and light, the more likely the flavor will degrade/lose potency.

i got my terpenes. so far these are very cool. i tried the quantum CIT extract in a few pints of ale and lager. its very interesting.

it is dervied from t90 pellets but has zero AA and claims is entirely for aroma. it doesnt disappoint.
so far it works great for reviving an ale i had that the hoppy aroma had faded from. it made it taste like i just dry hopped it a week or two ago.
whats weird is that the ale had no citra hops in it before and the additon of the citra really added to the beer and makes me think this recipe wpuld be great with a citra addition next time.

adding it to the lager was strange cause it really has very little hop flavor to begin with and hop aroma with out flavor doesnt quite work as well.

the omni extract claims to add flavor also but i havent tried them yet.

i will prolly end up adding the rest of the omni citra to a hazy i am planning in addition to a bunch of flavor additions and dry hops in order to punch up the aroma level.

the aroma from this stuff is really intense . i put a few drops was all in a pint and it is very noticeable.
