First post on here! Have only done a few brews and decided to go for it with my own recipe which I developed by perusing a lot of threads on here

(lots of help from this one: https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f76/crazy-bettys-sweet-potato-pie-ale-ag-269624/ )

Just brewed this one yesterday but wanted to share it and get any ideas/input for future times (and I'll keep you posted on how it turns out!). Again just started, so still doing extract

Recipe Type: Extract
Yeast: American Ale
Yeast Starter: No
Additional Yeast or Yeast Starter: No
Batch Size (Gallons): 5
Original Gravity: 1.042
Boiling Time (Minutes): 60
Primary Fermentation (# of Days & Temp): 7 @ 69-70
Additional Fermentation: None
Secondary Fermentation (# of Days & Temp): 14 @ 67-70
Tasting Notes: Sweet and Spicy.

Grains:

5 lbs golden light lme
1.2 lbs Munich lme
1 lbs CaraRuby 20L
.5 lbs Caramunich 1
.25 lbs Biscuit
.25 lbs Special B

Hops:

0.5 oz Magnum @60
1 oz Williamette @20

Misc:

8 oz Light Brown Sugar @ 60
1 Tbsp Cinnamon @ 5
1 Vanilla Bean (secondary)
8 oz roasted pecans @ 30
3.5 lbs roasted sweet potatoes (2 lbs in mash, 1.5 lbs @60 in boil)

Yeast:

American Ale

Preparation:

Pecans - roasted at 350 for 15 min, crushed, and left on newspaper overnight, then roasted at 200 for 20 min prior to boil and left out on newspaper to remove some of the oil

Sweet potatoes - roasted at 170 for 3.5 hours, cut out of skin and cut into small chunks (wanted to mash them, but college apartment...don't have a masher handy)

I got an OG of 1.042 (seems low?), but overall the wort tasted pretty good! Does seem very murky overall though. Currently in primary and bubbling like crazy
