This might be a completely pointless/stupid question but I picked up my first two corney kegs recently and while I've had no problem breaking down and reconditioning the first one, I can not get the second one's posts to unscrew. I've got a 7/8" deep socket that fits it fine and have gone so far as to try hitting the side of the socket wrench's handle with a hammer to pry the things lose but no love.

Is there something I may be missing here about certain types of kegs or if this is just a really stuck pair of posts does anyone have any tricks they've learned over the years for getting these things loose?

Thanks in advance for any help.

You could try putting the closed end of the wrench on the post and bang the wrench on the floor in the CC direction.

Lay the keg down on the floor and have someone hold it well and put a 4 ft cheater pipe on the end of your ratchet and lean in to it..

I've used 3-in-1 on a couple. Since I give everything a good cleaning and replace the o-rings anyway, I figure a little petroleum won't hurt.

I found that one of my corney kegs had some glue around one post. Apparently when they put the rubber handles on it, they used tons of glue and it oozed out around the base of one post. I had to chip away at this with a screwdriver, and once it was clean around the base it came right off. Probably not your situation, but just a thought...

thanks for the advice everyone.

Ended up finding an actual wrench instead of the socket wrench I'd been using and added a piece of pipe to that. It took a bit of work but it finally came loose.

Glad you got it- I had to go get my breaker bar from my Jeep to get some stubborn ones off.. Which reminds, I should put that back or go buy another, seeing how it's become beer equipment :)
