Can you buy beer from the store and fill your corney keg with that?
or is it bad to do since the beer was opened?

There are several writeups/youtube videos of a closed system transfer. It takes several extra bits of 'plumbing', but it's certainly possible to transfer it without ever exposing the beer to oxygen.

Personally, I thought it was too much trouble, so I got my local victualer to order a torpedo (he also waived the keg deposit), and I bought a Sankey tap - two extra fittings and I can swap my ball lock connects onto the Sankey and then tap the commercial keg in my kegerator.

Oh, I just realized you said 'beer from the store', and not 'a commercial keg'.

No, hands down this is a bad idea... the largest reason just being the exposure to the atmosphere (contaminants, oxygen, etc.)

Not to mention, it will cost more than just getting a keg of commercial brew.

Agreed. And besides, what's so bad about bottled beer?
