On all of my directions for extract kits i've seen 15-30 min for steeping the grains.

Finished my 6th extract kit tonight and have steeped the grains in every batch to 30 min.

Is there an advantage to steeping the grains for 30 min over 15 min?

I believe that, in theory, if you are at the right temp you are actually doing a very small mash but the water to grain ration is all wrong for ideal mash conditions when using steeping grains.

So not really.

For a Partial mash then yes as this will allow for conversion to complete (I'd think a longer mash IMO)

For steeping crystal malts thats don't need to be converted then a short steep should do.

I steep my grains at mash temps and times just to get in to that habit, no it is not needed but I feel that it helps, me more than anything else, by performing the correct steps

Sounds good. I've always gone with 30 min and will keep with that practice.

Thanks all
