I pulled the very last runnings off two batches to gather wort for a couple yeast starters. I'm curious of y'all's opinions on this.

I have heard it not recommended to use the very last runnings, as it can be high in tannins from the husks. However, for a starter, I kinda don't care...

Anyone else do this?

For a starter, you need a gravity of 1.030 - 1.040.

I don't know about you, but my final runnings are always bhelow 1.015

I've done this before with decent success. It seems there's no harm in a super-low gravity starter (unlike super-high), it's just not optimum. I've also strained, diluted to 1.030, and pasteurised the wort left over in my boil kettle from whirlpooling, then decanted it off the trub to make a starter.
