I'm brewing the following "clone" recipe for Terrapin's Hop Karma this weekend. I could only find the "Special Roast" in a 1 pound bag. The recipe, courtesy of marc06, calls for .6 pounds. Should I add the whole pound? I've never brewed with this grain before and don't know much about it's characteristics. Thanks.

It's a fairly powerful flavor. I would save the rest for now and use it in something else unless you already know you love that flavor (I do).
It gives you a tangier version of the bready flavor you get from biscuit malt or english pale, "sourdough" is the popular descriptor.

I'd agree. That's a rather complex grain bill and almost doubling the Special Roast would be a problem. If the grain has been milled, freeze the leftovers.

My current batch o beer has 8oz of Special Roast. It's fairly strong at 8oz, but not too strong for me. A whole pound would be too much for most people.

Thanks for the help. I'll probably save the rest for a brown ale or something. Would the special roast go well in a Brown Ale?
