But I am still trying to figure out how the heck to get the extra wort that collects below my drain manifold??? I am using the ss screen, but it sits about 2" from the bottom of the cooler and I have the igloo cube which has different little cut outs in it for the little basket that came with the cooler. It is not a total flat bottom as there is a little slope about 4-5" from the bottom as well. Can someone give me some insight on how to drain that extra wort that I am missing out on? Should I take a picture to post so maybe you guys can see what I am talking about or what? Thanks so much......this is just driving me nuts!!!!

So, you have a drain tube that cnnects to the middle of the SS screen, right?

If you extended the tube beyond the screen down to the bottom of the cooler, wouldn't you drain the rest of that wort by siphon action, as long as the end of the outlet tube were below the bottom of the cooler?

How much are we talking about here...a cup...a quart...a gallon? Seems to me like there will always be some amount of loss...as long as it's not excessive, why worry about it.

So your saying if I extend the tube to the bottom it will siphon itself out? But it would be below the drain plug and gravity wouldn't allow this to happen would it? I am talking about maybe several quarts to could be up to a gallon. It's hard to measure exactly how much, but I can tell it would be a decent amount to throw my eff. off some. Wouldn't this wort at the bottom have more sugar in it as well verse what is being drained? Or maybe I am just crazy......

Uh, when you siphon out of the carboy, the liquid goes up the racking cane before it goes down, right?

Same principle.

Ahh...so your saying to actually attach the siphon I currently have to my hose running from the cooler? I misunderstood you.....thought you were saying it would run out on it's own........see, I am a moron sometimes......:drunk:

Nope. Just get a tube on the outside that goes below the level of the liquid in the keg, and by siphon action, the remaining wort will be sucked out.
