Has anyone bought sorbated cider to backsweeten with. I noticed at Aldi I can get a gallon of cider for three bucks but it has sorbate, so no good for fermenting with. But could I use it for backsweetening?

It's fine if you also sorbate your hard cider. But not sure if the amount in the small amount you use to backsweeten is enough to prevent a restart.

You would need to add 1/4 tsp of sorbate per gal of finished cider to prevent the restart when adding the sweet cider.

Yes Bigfly is right, even though there is sorbate in the sweet cider there was only enough added to hinder its own fermentation in its original volume. As soon as you add it to say, 5 gallons of fermented cider the active yeasts from the fermenting cider ( even if you have racked it a few times) will attack the new sugars.
