I went to a friends house and we shared some homebrew over dinner. He asked I had any hop plants. I said no and he dug up about a dozen rhizomes of Hallertau, nugget, and tettnanger. All this for a couple of homebrews. Anyway I have an ideal area along a chain link fence that has ample moisture year round. I need to know if hops like acidic or alkaline soils. My soil is slightly alkaline, limestone and sandstone is pretty common as the bedrock in my area. I plan on mounding the rhizomes and putting some peat moss and top soil in as a mixture. I know that the peat moss is acidic I am looking for moisture retention in the first year.

Any suggestions are welcome
