I recently noticed there is a concerning looking collection of bubbles near the top of the carboy I used to ferment Apfelwein. Before I used the carboy I was sure to run it through with soap, water and star san, but I am not sure I got all the soap out because of this collection of bubbles near the top of my brew. And diagnoses would be appreciated! Thanks

Did you say the last thing in there was starsan? Starsan foams, that way it makes sure it sanitizes every nook and cranny... it's fine...the starsan eventually breaks down into yeast food.

In fact I have a thread of pics of how crazy starsan gets...

Don't use a normal surfactant type soap. It leaves a film. I clean everything up with unscented OxyClean (actually the generic version). Revvy is right though, StarSan will foam like crazy, but that's a good thing. According to the company, it's actually a yeast nutrient.

Im not super familiar with Apfelwein fermentation, but I suspect its similar to beer. Are we sure that the bubbles arent just krausen (or the Apfelwein equivalent)? If not, I second charliehorse, dont use soap on brewing equipment
