Early start - Brewzilla 240v is heating up to strike temperature. Perfect day to brew! Cool 63° F with slightly overcast skies.

Making a 10 gal batch of Czech pilsner - mostly Pilsner malt, with some caropils, a dash of honey malt and caro 40 for a golden color. Czech Saaz put in at 40, 30 and 15 min.

Time to add the milled grain.

Doing a back to back brew days - trying to build up supply for families coming in for Christmas. To celebrate I'm making a batch of Irish Red for Mom, the new baby gets an Imperial American Brown Ale, daughters get a Pilsner and a blond ale. Etc. Lots of suds needed for the Milwaukee born clan (who came from Czech and Germany originally)... Lots of gallons needed. Hahaha
 
I need to brew my Daisy Cutter Clone for my home rotation and a DIPA for a friend I owe a favor to. I'm busy the next couple weeks and they have the same femintaion schedule/temp as well as same dry hop schedule. Guess Sunday will be my first ever double brew day.

last few brews have been not terrible, so I'm excited for what's brewing currently...

last week I made a mead that's still bubbling in the ferm chamber ...

Sitting next to it watching soccer while Jamil's Nutcastle is mashing at 152F...
tried to hook up my RO housing today, couldn't quite get it to work so will have to debug that later hopefully in time for next brew day! :)

  6. Flanders orange (tart Belgian, orange aroma hops, orange peel)

  9. Hop water (Tango)

And here I was feeling quite smug about doing a Munich lager yesterday and a WCIPA today.

5 gallon Amber ale into fermenter @ 1.061 today. Another 5 gallon Brown ale planned for tomorrow. Here's the wort from today's effort.

Dinner first. Brewing later. Trying a San Diego power bill hack. Start stovetop boil after 9pm for better rates. Haha
Smart. SDGE sure tries to be a significant portion of the cost of a batch these days.

On topic: I'm planning on a pils tomorrow - the latest BYO has an interview with Vinny Cilurzo of Russian River and includes some nice looking recipes.
 
I brewed a British Strong Ale, 1.078, about 50 IBU folowed by an Old Ale, 1.085, about 55 IBU with molasses. When the Old Ale finishes I’m planning an Imperial Stout with the same yeast and something here is getting oak aged for a bit.

My 5 taps are accounted for so these strong ales are going into bottles

1. Vienna Lager
2. Doppelbock
3. Irish Red Lager
4. Pre-Pro Lager
5. Apple Cider

Sunday will be this weekend, I guess; guess that I'll be brewing my annual Pumpkin. My neighbor challenged me to incorporate pineapple and marshmallow into the recipe somehow, but I think he's forgotten about it, so I'm just going with my typical spice mix and maybe some vanilla bean.

I do have S189, which i think would work well, but im really enjoying S23, so i think ill give it a go i na dark lager
 
Didn't do much for beer this weekend except moving my Altbier and Baltic Porter to fridge to begin a slow cold crash. Also rebuilt my 13 years of brewing spreadsheet that I use to track brews, comps entered, scores, etc. My work network got hacked last week and since I use Dropbox to sync a lot of my brewing files between home and work on computers, the hackers got those files too and encrypted them. Luckily, I had saved the comp sheet from the spreadsheet to Google Drive too last year, so only had to rebuild a year and a half of comp results. But my brew log, had to rebuild all of that from BeerSmth data. Which reminds me, I am brewing a Czech Pale Lager next weekend, going to have to download the supporter copy of Bru'n Water again, since that is one of the locked files too.
 
10 minute Chinook amber

92.7% Heidelberg pils
5.3% BB Dark munich
2% choc wheat ( end of mash )

Chinook @ 10 mins to 30 IBU
Probably Verdant or london ESB ( whatever its called now )

I went through a phase a while ago when 10min APAs etc were popular. I really liked them, especially when you have heaps of hops.

Ill dry hop it as well.
 
I've been on a real Belgian kick recently. Tomorrow I'm whipping up a Belgian pale ale. I picked up some red milo (sorghum) and going to try it out in a beer because it's supposed to add fruit flavors. Brewing the beer with pils and red milo, a little table sugar, WY1388 and homegrown mt. hood hops. More of an experiment with the red milo and using up the WY1388 which was an expired yeast I got for free from the homebrew shop.
 
Sunny, 65°, no wind, in MT in November. Good day to brew in the garage. Sitting outside with a beer watching the IC do it’s thing. Brewed a Cream Ale today.

I like the IC water running the sprinkler. I usually fill buckets and dump it around trees. Might have to try the sprinkler idea.

I’ve been using the IC with a sprinkler since I started brewing at the city house about seven years ago. It just seemed like a logical thing to do. I brew in the garage and it’s easy to just set the kettle at the end of the sidewalk and water the lawn while cooling the wort. It’s also good for getting strange looks from the neighbors when I brew in the winter and am watering the snow covered lawn. 😄

In winter I brew inside, on the stove top, then use the faucet to run the IC. However, I just let the water run down the drain. I'm not about the schlep buckets of water outside. I measured once--it takes about 25 gallons of water to chill a 5 gallon batch to ale pitching temps.
 
Never had this happen - last night I had a double hit of - keg over and out. No more nut brown and no more stout. Thankfully, I did 10 gal batches for each and a 5 g back up was ready to go ... All cool and carbed.

But it left me today feeling like I needed to brew again. Right now. This morning.

And a 10+ gal batch of a blonde English IPA is in the kettle mashing. Busy morning - measured out grain (24.8 lbs) and milled.
Pale Ale, Marris Otter, 2 row, carapils, flaked corn, red x, and some honey malt.
Smells amazing. Hops? Galaxy, Amarillo and Willamette . 1 oz each.

Basically - as of 8:30 am - no plans to brew ... But here we are. About half way thru the mash.
