Snow for Boil Kettle Water

A guy in colorado did it recently. He said he needed 18 gallons of snow to make enough for a 5 gallon batch.

Well,actually (!!),if I remember science class correctly,snow forms around particulate matter in the air. So the melting snow would drop said particulate matter out of suspension to the bottom of the kettle. So I'd say a quick filtering would be best after melting it.
 
I wouldn't worry too much about it, it's all getting boiled anyway. If you're an all grain brewer, snow melt will be very soft (lacking in minerals) so you may want to account for that.
 
I wouldn't. It can have some nasties in it depending on your location. In Maine we need to watch our fresh fish intake due to mercury. It is also a bit acidic due to co2 uptake in the atmosphere
