My question is: can I use a standard electric "char-broil" type spark igniter with BG14 HP burners? Every search I do results in posts about pilots and Honeywell this, that, and the other. I am not automating or anything. I just want to be able to light my burners without having to drill holes in my windscreens in order to stick a lighter through it.

You could if you could get the ignitor close enough without it melting the wires when you get the burner going. If you look at a Grill, the ignitor just stick through a hole and the rest is "heat" protected somewhat. I could not get it to work for me so I gave up trying this method.
