So, in my drunken ramblings with my brother, we have decided to make a watermelon shandy for this summer. Couple of Q's.

1. What should be my beer to watermelon beverage ratio? 1:1? 2:1?
2. What beer is best for shandies? I was thinking a pale ale. Erxtra pale.
3. Should I use real watermelon as well as a powdered mix? Or just the powder stuff?

THANKS!!

Usually a Shandy is equal parts beer to lemonade, but it all depends on your taste. If you want it sweeter, use more watermelon, if not, use less. The best way to use the watermelon is to make it into agua fresca. Scoop all of the flesh out of a melon or two, take out all of the seeds, purée all of it with some sugar added to it to sweeten it. If you really want to kick it up a notch, ferment the agua fresca as well. I make a killer shandy out of equal parts hard lemonade( homemade) and a lemon wheat beer.
