So Brewed a saison today for the first day of Western Mass Beer week #WMABW and I found a second use for my homemade hop spider.

I had made one of the hop spiders from a 4" PVC adapter and some bolts and a paint strainer bag. As I was getting ready to vorlauf today, a thought popped into my head. I had been looking for something to slow the pour of wort back into my mash tun, and had though about frisbees, etc..
I took a 16 Oz yogurt container, drilled some holes in it, flipped my hop spider upside down without the strainer bag, and the container fit perfectly. My vorlauf went smoother than it ever has. and I didn't have to worry about disturbing my grain bed pouring 4 cups of wort all in one spot, or trying to carefully pour around the sides...

Maybe not a huge deal, but it knocked a few minutes off my brew day, and I thought I might share with fellow brewers.

Plus I feel that I have gotten double the vale out of my already cost saving DIY hop spider, so there is that bonus.

Plus Plus, in a few weeks I should have a tasty saison to drink :D

Clever. I have a aluminum pie pan, (one of the disposable ones), that I stabbed a bunch of holes in. It just fits inside my 5 gallon round cooler. I lay that on top of the mash and pour, (or pump, depending on my mood), onto it.

I use of these:

I also use it to skim off the hot break before the boil.
