So, I have my first ever batch in the fermenter right now (extract with grains, IPA) and I'm already thinking about the next batch. Looking for a partial mash, something amber-y, fruity and hoppy, but not quite at an IPA level. What do you think of this?

3lbs Maris Otter
1 lb Crystal Malt 60
3 lb Light LME
8 oz Dextrose
1 oz Amarillo (60mins)
.5 oz Amarillo (30 mins)
.5 oz Amarillo (5 mins)
S04 Yeast

Thanks,

Is this 5 gal? I think you've sort of wasting a nice hop like amarillo with a mostly early additions, depending on the AA% it also might be a lot of bittering for what looks to be about a 1.047-48 beer depending on the efficiency of your mash. I don't know that you want to thin this out further with sugar, I'd just use more extract or grain. I'd probably switch the hops up to something like below. Would be about 34 IBU's quickly plugging in to beersmith with default AA's, so you could adjust as you like.

0.5 oz Amarillo 60 min - or small charge of a neutral high AA hop
1 oz Amarillo 10 min
1 oz Amarillo 0 min
