Anyone have a link or info on types of beers typical for the season or time of year? I'm not looking for the commercial or micro-brew particular beers (like Geary's Autumn Ale or Shipyard's Pumpkinhead) just general beer types for the season. Being a noob and realizing that brewing a fall beer in the fall will result in drinking in the winter, I'm thinking one has to brew a season in advance so to speak...particularly in New England where seasons can be long and/or short...I haven't been able to find any info on this...

Thanks.

This just comes with really researching each kind of beer. Like Saisons are brewed in the early summer for mid-late summer consumption, Marzen(octoberfest) are brewed in late august/end of summer. There are not to many truly season kinds now but with traditional brewing practices there were tendencies to brew at certain times of year. Then there are Barley wines, lambics, gauzes that it doesnt matter because the aging is so long.. There are some that just dont matter. It all comes with the story behind every style of beer.

I did read a book a few years ago (something checked out at the library) that had a list of beers for seasons. It also had a chart of traditional times to brew and drink. Sorry I can’t remember the name but if you search the library website you could find it. I think it had the number 50 in it – something like “50 seasonal beers”
