I'm just now getting my wort to boil (stout) should I scoop off the scum that gathers on top?

I thought this was gonna be a thread about Britney Spears :(

On topic, what sort of scum are you talking about? I honestly wouldn't worry about it at all. The only thing I've ever scooped out of the wort during the boil has been when I accidentally charred some LME. I scooped out all the black solids rolling around. Anything beyond that, I would worry about.

Thanx guys. it's normal scum I've never bothered to scoop out any way just thought I'd ask.

The scum is the hot break, I assume.

It settles out of the beer in the trub along with any spent yeast cells.
I hope thats the case this time around. It was nasty, looked like snot strings from a herd of elephants I strained the wort through some mesh but still got some in the carboy.
