Made my 3rd batch last night( Rye Pale Ale extract) and the brew went well. I also used a SS wort chiller and got to 73 degrees in 20 mins. Heres my issue.

I pitched the yeast ( BRY-97) and two or so minutes later, dummy me i started to thief out wort for my OG reading. I only got about 2" in my cylinder i realize i screwed up.

Question: do i need to pitch more yeast?

I have it in a swamp cooler and i have it steady at 64 degrees. Good temp???

Thanks

I did the same thing on my pale ale batch that I'm bottling today. Took the OG after pitching. Oops

Everything turned out fine for me.

No you don't need to pitch more yeast. 64 is a good temp. Try to keep it there with frozen water bottles.

Flipadelphia: how long should it take to start fermenting at 64 degrees?

Don't be too worried if you haven't seen fermentation yet; that BRY 97 is a notoriously slow starter.
