I guess, since it's a holiday weekend and my kids are out of school, this is an oddly named beer to be brewing today! This is my cobbled together recipe for a session IPA, and this is the first time I'm brewing it........and my first brew after a two year hiatus!
School's In Session - 5.25g
9lbs Pale 2-row
1lb Carapils
1 oz Magnum - FWH
3 oz Cascade - Steep/whirlpool @ 190/30 min
2 oz Amarillo - Steep/whirlpool @ 190/30 min
1 oz Cascade - Dry Hop
2 oz Amarillo - Dry Hop
WLP002 - California Ale yeast
Mash @ 152 for 60 min
Boil 60 min
Hit my pre-boil volume and OG targets with 7.5g @ 1.042, which should yield me 1.049 into the fermenter.
I recently added a BrewTech 10G SS MT to my kit, and I was pretty pleased with how it worked out.....though, not too surprised, as this MT is really just a prettier version of my Igloo MT that I have been using for 10 years (had some gift money burning a hole in my pocket, and decided to add the new MT rather than invest in some needed refreshing of my Igloo.)
My boil is underway, so far so good, like riding a bike! In a bit, I'll get to test out my new chilling set up using my old Igloo MT, pond pump, and some ice water.
A couple of pics along the way....
...transitioned to Google Photos, so hope I set up the sharing correctly for these to appear.
Thanks for looking, and hope everyone who is brewing today has a smooth run.
Cheers,
Rich
