- Tasting Notes
- big beer, definitely a nice winter ale... has a weird salty funk to it, but works
12lb 4oz rahr 2-row
6oz special b
4oz black patent
8oz crystal 40L
4oz carahell
1 oz challenger pellets(80)
1ozUKKG, 2 cinnamon sticks, .5tsp nutmeg, .5 cup dextrose, for (15)
.5ozUKKG(5)
added 12oz very cold water to 4.3gal of post boil.(started with a little over5)
pitched White Labs Cali with starter
Called the beer "Santa's Snowball to the Face"
mashed 80 minutes at 157... sparged with 165
beer was good... only thought of it when the owner of a taproom in town brought it back up yesterday, and then I dug this recipe out... it was pretty early in my brewing days, so It's not as detailed as what I'd do today.. beer was defo a good winter... at bottling it was super hot and boozy, but after sitting for 10-12 days it was smooth as silk and easy to drink. had a weird salty funk, but it somehow worked quite well and wasn't any discernable/familiar off-flavor that I could detect... tasty, big winter. small but awesome retaining creamy head... great color... here's a pic of it, and a wheat I did at the time(Lazy Dog)
