Ok, I won’t bore you in the detail I’m at the start of a impromptu 5 days in the bay area.

Got a visit to Alcatraz, a MBA game, a few pints at the hop granade (looking forward to that) and the 21st amendment. Going to drive across the golden gate and go see the red wood forest.

Any other suggestions?

Take a sailboat ride on a charter boat in the Bay?

Check out Sausalito (north side of the bay from SF)

Stop by Russian River Brewing in Santa Rosa or their new $50mil brewery in Windsor.

Lots to do in that area!
Have fun!
Cheers

If you're up for some adventure, the Tenderloin neighborhood in SF has some great Vietnamese restaurants and fun bars. Be careful--the area is a little rough around the edges.

In city:
  • Fisherman's Wharf, get a bowl of chowder. Tourist hell, but you have to do it once. Check out Musee Mechanique, pretty nifty.
  • Rent bike near Ghirardelli square, ride over GG bridge to sausalito, take ferry back with bike (though, the return bike trip is all downhill and VERY easy).
  • Walk down Lombard st
  • Walk through chinatown
  • Cable Car museum
  • Do the hippy walk from Haight/Ashbury intersection to the GG Park, Enter park, count needle users camping in there
  • Cliff House / Sutro baths / Lands End nature trail

North of city, my favorite place to visit is Point Reyes light house. It's up above muir woods. If you go, make sure to take the coastal road and some dramamine. Russian River brewery is fun to visit, they have very good pizza and sometimes live music. Wine country up there, so maybe hit a winery.

South, I stay in Half Moon Bay a lot. Neat little working harbor there. Good eats at the harbor at Ketch Joanne. Pillar Point there has a big break and lots of surfers. I ran into Jeff Clark there (veteran surfer). Further south, Santa Cruz has a boardwalk / amusement park.

Loads of breweries up and down the coast, you wont be lacking there.

How much time and how far away do you want to go? Avenue of the Giants is an epic drive through some of the largest trees here; Google Map it to see if you want to burn a day or not.

Outside of that, enjoy the city. I like the Mission district, personally, because I love the MX food.

If you like sour beer, check out The Rare Barrel in Berkeley.

Well, not enough time like normal....

1. Train ride through the redwood forest. (Rented a F150 pick up).
2. Ferry over to Alcatraz for the tour
3. Clam chowder at the fishermans warf
4. Sea lions at Pier 39
5. Biked the golden gate bridge
6. Beer/food 21st amendment
7. Beer/food at Mikkeller
8. Beer/food at the Hop granade (saw Justin and sat in his chair in the studio)
9. Basket ball game, saw the Warriors beat the Grizzlies
10. Tour around the AT&T/Giants stadium.
11. Anchor brewery tour, plus the awesome tap house.

....awesome.

The city has some serious homelessness issues, was quite shocking. Concord was quite a contrast.

Thanks for the recommendations, I couldn't do all of them due to the travel time unfortunately.
