Hi folks,

I've been brewing for half a decade now (all extract or partial mash), and made the transition to kegs about 2 years ago. Since then, I've made some good hefes, some good oktoberfests, and a cream ale that wasn't half bad. However, I've made half a dozen kits from MoreBeer, and they've all ended up tasting somewhat similar and not good. It could be that they are all similar hazy profiles I've been going for, but it's odd that they often taste okay after fermentation has finished, always hit final gravity, and then into the keg and they all taste like moldy oranges with a very bitter finish. This isn't just when they're fresh, it's 4-6 weeks post-keg transfer.

I've cleaned and scrubbed and sanitized my lines and kegs, made sure I'm purging the O2 (a dirty line certainly contributed to the Zythos not tasting great, but didn't explain everything). I don't see this as a common off-flavor, but it's certainly a home brew-y flavor. Any thoughts? Any other info needed? Should I just go to my local home brew club? I don't really have time to join a club - Can I bring a sample to MoreBeer or another brew supply store?

Here are the kits I've bought from MoreBeer that all ended up tasting like this:
Zythos Single Hop - https://www.morebeer.com/products/z...iment-extract-beer-brewing-kit-5-gallons.html

Citra Pale - https://www.morebeer.com/products/citra-session-pale-ale-extract-beer-brewing-kit-5-gallons.html

M-80 IPA - https://www.morebeer.com/products/m80-ipa-carlos-musquez-malt-extract-kit.html

New School Kicks - https://www.morebeer.com/products/kit-school-kicks-hazy-pale-ale.html

I've still got some of the New School Kicks if anyone in the East Bay is willing to try a swig. Thanks in advance for your help!

The only thing I can think of is this....bottle a few of your next batch as well...if they aren't tasting bad then it's obviously keg /line issue. I'd possibly start off with a new keg / line all together on your next batch if possible. If it still tastes bad...i would think it's something with your transferring equipment or fermentation buckets. If you start fresh and new and everything still tastes that way...well possibly it's something in the water you are using? Everything that I can think of.

I've brewed the M-80 from Morebeer and liked it, In fact I am getting another one delivered today.
Also have been brewing their Columbus IPA for several years and is my favorite.
Never noticed a moldy orange flavor from any of their kits. The M-80 is high on the bitter scale though and is due to the recipe.
How does your water taste and smell ?

Just throwing this out there, but could they be selling you old kits. The reason I say this is because I've bought old kits. There's a local party store here, and the owner thought he could get into selling Homebrew supplies. No one ever bought anything so He had a sell on everything. I bought a few of his kits that had been sitting there collecting dust. Every one of those kits had the same off flavor. That was 2 years ago and he still has a few kits left and a LME can that's sitting on the shelf that's become swollen.
