Anybody know of a good extract recipe for this beer? It is the favorite of one of my family so i thought I would make it.

BTW Is it a lager or an Ale?

Regards,
Al

Start off at SamuelAdams.com, they have some decent information on all their beers. If you don't feel like looking, here's what I pulled down.

"Brewed using only American 2-row malted barley and German noble hops - Spaltner."

"Color: Golden to Light Amber"
"Grain: 2-Row, Crystal 60L"
"Starting Gravity: 9' Plato"
"ABV: 4.05%"
"Hop Varieties: Spalt-Spaltner"
"Yeast Strain: Bottom feeding Lager yeast"

That should be a pretty good start. You can probably formulate a pretty close "clone" since the ingredient list is so short. Only 2 grains, only 1 hop, and they give you the starting gravity and final ABV. The only key piece I see missing is an IBU amount, but you may find that with some looking around or judge it by doing a taste test. I'm guessing its semi-low - not as low as Bud Light, but not American Pale Ale high either...

You will need the ability to lager in order to reproduce this though. Being such a light beer, any fruitiness/esteriness from using an ale yeast and higher ferment temps would be pretty evident. Not saying it wouldn't still make a decent beer, but it won't be a clone without being lagered.

Hope this helps.

It actually reminds me of Yeungling quite a bit. I suspect 5% 60L, 95% 2 row with a single bittering addition of EKG, Fuggle or Tett would work, somewhere around 18-20 IBU. OG should be around 1.040, FG 1.008. Yeast? WLP840? Maybe 800 or 802. I've used Saflager S23 on a similar project but it's always a bit estery for me. It's like half ale/lager.

I like messing around with beersmith........so I threw this together based on the other posts real quick. Probably a good starting point for you.
