I am new to brewing and styles. Is this a Saison, or more of a wheat ale? Or hybrid, or neither….What would you categorized this as?
Grains
5LB white wheat malt
5.5LB 2 row pale malt
Mash In:
4.0 gallons – Strike at 163 F to obtain 151 F 60 min – Mash temp varied 147-152, mash temp stayed mostly at 151. Mashed on stove top.
Batch Sparge: 3.0 Gallons at 158 F to obtain a 152 F temp for 30 min
Boil Time: 60min
Hops used: (This is an experimental hops addition for me).
60 Min added .25 oz German Hallertau, .25 oz Sterling
30Min added .25 oz German Hallertau, .25 oz Sterling and .25 UK WGV
15 Min Added .25 oz German Hallertau, .25 oz Sterling and .25 oz UK WGV
0 min Added.25 oz German Hallertau, .5 oz Sterling and .5 oz UK WGV
Yield 5.5 Gal or so
Pitched Yeast: Belgian Saison Yeast Blend WLP568 (Starter: 2 cups filtered water - 1 cup LDME)
OG 1.059
The photo is on the dark side. It is lighter (of course) with a hue of orange. smells very good. wort taste was sweet with a bitter finish. I am a good amateur cook so I taste everything. Not sure that matters here.
I think the yeast are very happy. look at the heavy white line.
