I've always used the term OG but just saw SG somewhere on a brewing log and am not familiar with it. What is SG?

specific gravity..terms are interchangable...

OG (original gravity) is simply the SG (specific gravity) before fermentation and FG (final gravity) is the SG after fermentation. In my brewing log I use SG to denote any intermediate gravity readings between OG and FG.

sometimes they use SG to mean Starting Gravity. hence why its better to say OG, to avoid confusing it with SG in the context of specific gravity.

thanks for the clarification, i think i actually just had a brain fart since i did know the term specific gravity haha.
