Rust? in my Sanke boil kettle?

it looks like I have a light coat of rust? on the bottom of my boil kettle.
I think my mistake is after cleaning and emptying, I just let it air dry.

Question:
1.I'm brewing tomorrow, what can I clean it with tonight?

2. what should I do after cleaning to prevent in the future?

Barkeepers Friend and a Scotchbrite pad will take care of it. Just rinse real well after cleaning. To prevent this in the future, either store them upside down, or wipe them dry.

EDIT: PS- Don't use steelwool.

I agree! Barkeepers friend works. You can get it at the grocery store by the Comet. Be sure to air-dry after rinsing. I always store my keggle bottoms up so it drains completely and no water sets in the bottom.

just washed it down with BKF and a blue scotch brite pad.
I'll store upside down from now on.

Also, if you've used bleach to sanitize or clean it you could have caused pitting from that.

Stainless is actual rust resistant, not rustproof. It's like bug repellant... you can still get bit.

palmers book has some good info on returning the rust-resistance to stainless steel. He is a metalurgist after all.
