I am looking to brew a beer akin to Rogue's Mom Hefe but with a different base beer. I have hips and petals but I'm not sure how much to use.

I hope some other folks also answer this thread.. more data the better..

On a BYO magazine spice usage chart, they suggest no more than 2 oz of Rose Hips in the boil for 60-mins. That is at least a starting point.

I would also recommend looking around the net, especially cooking sites, and find out how other people are using Rose Hips in food.

A few years back, I made a mead with Hibiscus Flowers & Rose Hips. It came out really well, and won a few awards. I wanted to preserve the aromatics as best I could, so I just steeped 4oz of each in 4 cups of distilled water for a few days, and added that to my primary fermenter (6 gal batch). Both herbs were dried cut/sifted.

Hope that gives at least a starting point to come up with something interesting!
