I want to experiment with a kit I have and after reading up on maltodextrin, it doesn't add anything but mouth feel. Rolled oats adds that and mild flavor and a bump in abv. Correct?
Recipe calls for 1lb maltodextrin. I added 1lb rolled oats into the bf recipe calculator. Og is 1.077. Within range. But fg is 1.024. Above range. Should I just use no maltodextrin and more oats? Then adjust oats for higher og to compensate for higher fg? If not, any thoughts? It's an imperial stout. Plus is there enough base malt to add it?

You aren't going to get any fermentable sugars out of the oats, because that recipe has no base malt (ie, 2-row, pale malt, pilsner, etc), so definitely not any bump in abv. I think you'll get some oaty flavor contribution, and a bunch of starch, which will likely just sink to the bottom of your fermenter.

The kit lists 8 oz maltodextrin, not a pound.

What it the goal of this little experiment? If you want a higher ABV and a bit more complexity, then do a minimash with a couple of pounds of 2-row, the specialty grains from the kit, and a pound (or maybe a pound and a half) of rolled oats.

I guess some people aren’t “opening” the image to see the full ingredient list. An “all grain” recipe would likely get that mouth feel from big percentage of crystal malts and adjusting mash temps. Maltodextrin is what’s going to give this a fuller mouth feel/more body. You can play around with adding oats, but you are likely to get the same result. It is your beer, so, do what you must to learn the lesson. Let us know how you make out.
