So I took a final gravity reading tonight before I bottled my Bourbon Vanilla Porter with both a refractometer and a hydrometer. I got vastly different results...

OG 1.085

FG with refractometer 1.037
FG with hydrometer 1.023

The refractometer has ATC and I compensated the hydrometer reading for temperature as well.

I've read that hydrometer readings tend to be more accurate. The difference is rather large in this case. Thoughts?

A refractometer doesn’t work with FG the alcohol skews the measurement. I only use it for OG measurements and use a hydrometer for FG... (then I drink the beer!) I tried to find a good calculator online to convert the reading but not much out there. (Might want to look at brewers friend calculation if anything.? )
If you want to check calibration compare it to OG.
