I found a recipe on line for a Sam Adams clone. problem was it didn't say which S.A. it was. Also it called for using a Munton kit with additions.
I did a poor guess with substitutes . Here's what I used for a 4 gallon batch.
3 pounds light DME
1 pound amber DME
1/2 pound crystal 77 (recipe called for 60 ,but used what I had)
1 cup brown sugar (no scale)
1 oz. Hallertau hops for 50 minutes.
1/2 oz Tettnang for 30 minutes
1/2 oz Tettnang for 5 minutes.

It's been in the primary for 10 days and wanted to check the gravity.
Drank the sample and it taste great ,but more like a lawnmower or blonde ale.
I want to dry hop to give it some S.A. flavor .
What would be the proper hops to add and the amount ??

p.s. while I was drinking the sample ,I added a single drop of raspberry extract and it gave a nice fruit addition with out over powering it .
Worse case I can add the raspberry and make a summer beer for the ladies.

Still would like to aim more for S.A. but if the recipe is a lost cause I'll go fruity.
Thanx for any help.

Sounds like a clone for Boston Lager.

According to the Sam Adams website, it uses 2-row pale and 60L Caramel in the mash. I don't know what they bitter it with, but they use Hallertau and Tettnang as aroma hops.

I'd add another half-ounce of each variety and let it sit for at least a week. Just toss the pellets into the carboy.

Thought I'd update :
The ebayer I ordered the hops from was out of both that I wanted.
I substituted 1oz of challenger and 1 oz of millenium.
Dry hopped 1/2 oz of each for a week and still wasn't happy with the flavor.
Decided that it wasn't meant to be ..I.E. a Sam clone.
Added the other 1/2 oz of challenger and made hop tea from the 1/2 oz of millenium.
It helped, but the tea left it a bit on the bitter side ,but unbalanced.

Went to bottle it the other night and the bitterness had mellowed .
It tasted good, but was still missing something ....so I opted for what I'm calling a summer ale. I added 4 caps full of pure orange extract and 2 caps full of vanilla.
It has a nice taste with just enough fruit taste to make it very quenching.
Still got 3 weeks in the bottle before I know the final results , but I think this
MISTAKE may turn out to be a winner.:)
