I thought it would be fun for everyone to formulate and post their favorite recipes so that they cost $15 or less for a 5 gallon batch. Use the best prices you can find, whether online, from the LBS, etc., and post them with your recipes.

Most of my recipes are under $15 per batch, unless I'm doing a barleywine or something, it's just standard. Homegrown hops, hops direct bulk hops, bulk grain and home cultured yeast FTW!

Brewed this today:

Homegrown Willamette ESB

Style: Extra Special/Strong Bitter (English Pale Ale)
OG: 1.062
IBU: 41
SRM: 10
ABV: 5.5%

10 lbs Pale Malt (@.83/lb= $8.30) [cost per lb from 55lb bag of malt, from The Beer Essentials]
1 lb Crystal 55L ($1.75) [full retail price, OMG!]
.5 oz Magnum Hops @ 90 mins ($.50) [from Hops Direct]
2 oz Homegrown Willamette Hops 1 oz @ 15, and 1 oz @ 5 (free)
Recultured WLP002 English Ale Yeast ($~.50) [cost of vial spread over many batches, I buy 1 vial and use it for 6 months, I make starters with last runnings from mash]

$11.05 for 5 gallons, or less than a quarter per beer.

Does not include C02, Sanatizer, electricity for my stove or cost of equipment. Would be less than $2 more if I had to buy the Willamette from hops direct (was $8/lb+shipping last fall when I bought the rest of my hops).

I brew pale ales, stouts, ect for a similar cost.

Funny. That homegrown Willamette ESB is REALLY close to my ESB recipe. I toss in 1/2# Victory and use S-04. I have high AA Willamette, so i use them for bittering/FWH and flavor/aroma.

I usually use Willamette for bittering on this beer as well but I just opened a pound of magnum and I'm trying to use it up before hop harvest season.

Berliner Weisse

4 lbs Pilsner
3lbs Wheat
1oz Hallertau (mash)
No Boil (saves propane)

Homegrown Lacto (apple juice + grain) 7 days
Washed US-05 & day 7 for 7 days

Tons O' Flavor for well under $15 and ready in 4 weeks.
