Hops for Hope Hurricane Relief Effort

We know that many of our brewers and their families have been affected by the terrible storm along the east coast and the American Red Cross has been doing a great job getting set up to take care of all the people in need. And as always the Red Cross counts on donations to do what they do. We were planning on running a sale this coming week highlighting the great hops from New Zealand, so here's the plan. We are still running the sale starting today, up to 50% OFF the regular price on ALL of our NZ hops and 100% of the proceeds from the sale will go directly to the Red Cross. If you haven't gotten to try some of these amazing hops, here is your chance and it's for a great cause.

Here are the hops and a brief description.

Nelson Sauvin (NZ) $1.49/oz

For the last three years, Nelson Sauvin has been the most talked about (and brewed with) hop from down under. Described as “breathtaking,” NS has the ability to impart distinctive cool climate vibes and white wine frutiness. It has a wonderful essential oil profile with fresh crushed gooseberry and grape infused flavors. An excellent dual purpose variety that can handle anything from subtle bittering to a super punchy IPA. To the uninitiated, Nelson Sauvin’s fruity nature may be overpowering, however for bold brewers looking for intense hop character, this is the perfect variety.

Rakau (NZ) 99¢/oz

Similar to the Riwaka, but with more tropical fruit aromas such as passionfruit and peach. A perfect dual purpose hop, with the cohumulone level below 25% it delivers very smooth bittering. And for late additions it has quite high levels of essential oil with an H/C ratio typical of classic aroma varieties. Add some New Zealand fruity zing to your Pale Ales and big IPA’s

Pacifica (NZ) 65¢/oz

An aroma variety, descendant of Mittlefruh, that has been deemed a “class act” by brewers worldwide. Pacifica displays classic Hallertau citrus and floral characteristics with a generous accompanying oil profile. This combination blends old world and new world tastes, making Pacifica a desired variety for an array of different beer styles – from traditional German Lagers to new generation IPA and Pale Ales. Late additions bring characteristics of orange marmalade, while early additions yield soft, yet solid bittering.

Motueka (NZ) 99¢/oz

A distant relative of Saaz, Motueka presents with unique aroma and flavor of lively lemon and lime with background hints of tropical fruit (could be an excellent substitute for Sorachi, hint, hint). These flavor characteristics have allowed Motueka to develop a reputation as an excellent variety for single hop bills.

Wakatu (NZ) 89¢/oz

New Zealand Wakatu (formerly Hallertau Aroma) is a benchmark dual purpose hop with extreme versatility in the brewhouse. It is characterized by restrained floral notes atop freshly-zested lime. It is internationally recognized and complimented on its rounded flavor, moderate cohumulone and outstanding oil profile. The result is a truly rewarding finish.

Pacific Jade (NZ) 89¢/oz

The newest release out of the New Zealand Hop Research Program, Pacific Jade exemplifies the market direction and the New Zealand breeding program. It is a high alpha (13%) with low cohumulone (24%) variety with excellent oil profiles. Pac Jade is characterized by bold herbal aromas and hints of fresh citrus and crushed black pepper. Brewers have found favor with the hop, noting that it delivers soft bitterness with desirable aroma. Pac Jade can, and has been used for dual purpose applications, especially in Ales and as a finishing hop.

Pacific Gem (NZ) 89¢/oz

A High Alpha hop (14.6%AA) that does not carry the punchy aromas usually associated with higher Alpha hops. Pacific Gem contains a good balance of oils which constantly contributes to its aroma score. A very pleasing hop with useful bittering potential. Pacific Gem fills the brew house with enticing aromas during kettle addition and has been described as producing oaken flavors with a distinct blackberry aroma. Typically used as a first hop addition and makes its presence felt through an excellent tempered bitterness and flavor. Well suited to a wide range of beer styles and lends itself well to European Lager styles of various bitterness levels.

So throw some of these hops in your cart, remember 100% of the money raised on these hops will go straight to The American Red Cross.

Got the email 3 hrs ago and waited to get home to order, most varieties are sold out.

I checked the website, and it said other variety types will be on sale for each week of november for the same cause

Omg...that's a deal. New Zealand hops are the finest in the world. There is absolutely no reason not buy them up before they sell out.
