pretty sure they're 16oz cans. so that's $30 for 64oz of 15% imperial stout. which is not a bad deal.
i don't think it's an indicator of how dumb craft beer is right now (which is pretty dumb). It's more indicative of how many breweries are packaging only in can and willing to put normally high priced beer into them, as opposed to bottles. But yes, casual consumers of craft beer will find that insane. Many are still generally biased against cans. Try explaining to a baseball crowd why $14 for a 16oz can of a Hermit Thrush barrel-aged, mixed-ferm sour aged on cherries that is produced out of state is not a ridiculous price.

I know it may defy rational logic, but I'd much prefer a 12oz canning/bottling format of a 15% anything than a 16oz. even if it's a higher price point. $23-$24 4-pack of BCBS when they were in 12oz bottles is just more in line with my drinking capabilities and desires than a whole pint of BIG stout.

Agree it's more sticker shock than price creep, but 16oz big stouts are not for me nowadays. Same thing for bombers.

God I love CBC/GABF time in CO. It's raining Revolution Straight Jacket cans right now. I may buy every single one.
One of my favorite parts of GABF is going to Argonaut Liquors (cause it's close to Downtown) and seeing what craziness they've gotten in because of the fest. Last time it was a fuckloadery of Fantome.

Totally agree on 12oz bottle being preferable. Though some breweries don't even have a bottling line anymore. Plus, if I was going to the release I'd prefer to be able to buy only 1-2 cans as opposed to a 4 pack.

Pretty funny that it's apparently everyone's fault except Stone's that the Berlin thing didn't work out, according to Greg. I don't know the area, but saw lots of tweets about how it was not convenient location and also that the prices were way above what Germans are used to.

It’s about 12 km from central Berlin (about 15 km from where we were staying in Friedrichshain) which is about a 40 min ride on public transit. It was also about 1.5-2 times as expensive as most other places in Berlin. We went on a Sunday afternoon and it was pretty empty.

my brother lives there and got to go to the brewery, met Greg, when it opened. he's a beer drinker but not geeked out about it. had no idea about Stone at all going in.

this was exactly his impression. not the best location, crazy prices relative to everything else. beautiful space but not very German.

The location is ******* terrible. It's way out in the boonies, was like an hour away from where I stayed Kreuzberg. I think another big issue with them is being only available in cans, Germans aren't huge fans of them.

I think it's also that ze Germans just weren't impressed with an American coming over to tell them they've been doing it wrong all along

Fraugruber and Blech Brut are doing perfectly fine selling hazy IPA and overfruited kettle sours in cans in Germany without the holier than thou attitude

True, Fuerst Wiacek is also doing well with the hazy cans but their production is also way smaller than Stone.

Local place Sand City just announced this.

Lava Cake: 15% Imperial Stout brewed with an explosive amount of chocolate, vanilla, & espresso powder, & with a hint of milk sugar to give it that dessert feel.
$30/ 4pack. 4/ 4pack limit pp

Can you imagine trying to explain to someone unaware of how dumb beer is nowadays that you spent $30 on a 4-pack of cans?

NOPE

Fine but not something I’d want a 4 pack of.

Watching some crappy British show called Midsommer Murders last week, a hobo bought a plastic two liter bottle of Strongbow and quite honestly, I was jealous.
What series? The original ones were never crappy ones, since all the new actors came in I will accept the ‘crappy’ descriptor

From the 90's. Uninteresting stories with over the top melodrama and comically bad acting from the supporting actors. Law & Order: The Soap Opera. Just not my thing.

They still make Strongbow in plastic 2L??

Went to this on the weekend:

https://garageproject.co.nz/blogs/the-journal/hapi-festival-symposium

Breweries pouring (most for the first time in New Zealand):

Hill Farmstead Brewery

Cloudwater Brew Co

Firestone Walker Brewing Co.

Modern Times Beer

Other Half Brewing Company

The Veil Brewing Co.

Mikkeller HQ

Sierra Nevada

Crooked Stave Artisan Beer Project

Trillium Brewing Company

Alvarado Street Brewery & Grill

Omnipollo

Stone Brewing

Tired Hands Brewing Company

Monkish Brewing Co.

CANarchy Craft Brewery Collective

Cellarmaker Brewing Company

the Bruery

Observations: Every beer I had was really good. The biggest queues were for Omnipollo, Trillium, HF and Firestone. After about 30 mins there were no queues anywhere else which was great.

All in all, I drank many delicious beers.

One can only hope beer trends are going the way of the news cycle: things move so quickly that what was big only days or weeks ago is completely forgotten. So maybe if we're lucky this cereal beer nonsense will burn itself out in a couple of months rather than taking years. Of course the next trend will probably be even stupider...

On the other hand, who cares, right? It's not like hazy IPAs where this ******* **** is everywhere, it's just some attention-whores trying to get publicity. Just ignore it and drink the super plentiful non-stupid beer.

That's true. I think this trend is annoying me more than most (even more so than the typical Omnipollo stupidity) because after that one brewery succeeded in getting noticed through a purchased publicity campaign, more and more of them seem to be doing that. And the reason it annoys me is that it winds up circulating through to general interest and local news sites and gets back to me as non-beer geek normie friends (especially older ones like parents) flood my phone and social media feeds with "HAVE YOU SEEN THIS?!?!? CAN YOU GET IT?!?!" type nonsense.

again, I bought a case of 16oz Narragansett Lager cans for $18.54. That's likely less than four cans of this stuff. I may have turned a new leaf.

I mean you can set the old people secondary market this way. You are losing out on max profits

Well it sounds to me like your problem is that you have normie friends/relatives that you talk with. Can't get bothered by people if you're a hermit! Taps head
