will this melt if used for a boil kettle sight tube?

More than likely yes. These things aren't rated for high temp like glass or some of the specialty plastic like Bobby_M or The Pol use.

Pol has a recent thread about making these on the cheap.

i'll have to get a picture of what happened on Saturday, but the sight tube barely made it through the HLT heating up. so i preemptively put the plug in place of the one on the boil kettle. definitely not hardy enough for heating up!

It will work for quit a while but will eventually be frought with stress fractures from the heating cooling cycles.

mine felt like vinyl tubing after about 1 hr of heating
