These things aren't rated for high temp like glass or some of the specialty plastic like Bobby_M or The Pol use. Pol has a recent thread about making these on the cheap.

OP OP android Well-Known Member Joined Jan 31, 2009 Messages 3,058 Reaction score 55 Location Ames, Iowa Apr 13, 2009 #4 i'll have to get a picture of what happened on Saturday, but the sight tube barely made it through the HLT heating up. so i preemptively put the plug in place of the one on the boil kettle. definitely not hardy enough for heating up!
