Hey guys -

I have quick connects setup on my keggles and pump outlet. So I'm set there.

what I am looking for is quick connects for my plate chiller and inlet for the pump.

I need:
4 1/2" FPT Plugs (3 for the plate chiller and 1 for the inlet of the pump)
1 1/2" MPT Plug for the plate chiller
2 1/2" FPT sockets (both for the in hose and out hose for Plate chiller)

My problem is the wort hoses! The barbed connects don't have 1/2" couplers. Only 3/8". This means that I can not connect a 3/8" socket to a 1/2" plug. correct?

Either I am missing something or I can't do what I'm thinking of doing (getting rid of the ss clamps and going all quick connect)

Same for the non barbed couplers. I do not see 3/8" coupler for 1/2" NPT.

Granted, I am at work so I am multi tasking.

Is my only option for the barbed portion:

get a 1/2" mpt barb and a 1/2" FPT socket from Mcmaster in order to get the correct fitting to a 1/2" MPT Plug?

Bumpity Bump Bump Bump :ban:

Come on you erector set maniacs. I know you are out there. I'm surprised Bobby hasn't even checked this out yet for an answer.

I'm confused.

I need:
4 1/2" FPT Plugs (3 for the plate chiller and 1 for the inlet of the pump)
1 1/2" MPT Plug for the plate chiller
2 1/2" FPT sockets (both for the in hose and out hose for Plate chiller)

1/2" FPT plugs...do you mean 1/2" plugs with 1/2" FPT threads? same for the others....what coupler size and what pipe size are you trying to use?

For me, I went with 3/8" couplers. I used 3/8" coupler sockets with 1/2" ID barbs for the hoses, and 3/8" coupler plugs with 1/2" MPT threads. On my pump, I had to use a 1/2" FPTx1/2"FPT threaded coupler to connect the MPT plug with the pump inlet.

1 6739K68 6 Each Hose Couplings For Coolant, Sleeve-lck Sckt,90 Deg Barb,3/8"cplg, 1/2" Hose Id
2 6739K59 9 Each Hose Couplings For Coolant, Plug, 1/2" Nptf Male, 3/8" Coupling Size

The garden hose ends I will be connecting to the plate chiller are Male threaded 1/2".

The Plate Chiller Water Out is 1/2" MPT. I do not want the hose to have direct contact with the chiller (it's a chea hose and leaks). Instead I want a 1/2" FPT 3/8 Couple Plug attached. The Hose with the
1/2" MPT will have a 1/2" barbed 3/8 coupler Socket.

The problem with this is that the only 1/2" FPT plugs are 6739K58 and
6537k13 unless I'm mistaken.

The Water In is 1/2" FPT. In this case I want to put a 1/2" MPT coupler plug there. the Hose will have a 1/2" FPT Socket. There is no problem here because the couplings match 3/8". 6739k59.

The problem with the Water Out will be the same as the the wort In and Wort out hoses. 1/2" MPT input and output will require 1/2" FPT attachments. I do not see any FPT attachments that match the coupling sizes for the 3/8" barbed coupling.

And for the pump, the input is 1/2" MPT (same as Water Out, Wort in and Wort out).

This it my plate chiller and current rigging of how the hoses are on. I cant take a picture with the ss clamp amd FPT adapters off until I get home from work.

your (mis?)use of "barbs", "plugs", "sockets"... confuses me

are you looking for SS camlocks? or just any quick disconnects? by "quick disconnect" do you mean a male and female socket that locks together, or are you talking about a barb that you push the hose over, and then tighten a collar down around the barb to lock it in...?

Sorry bud, I was typing and doing work at the same time in both posts.

The wort hoses will have a barbed socket. k6739k64 or the elbowed one.

I want that to go with this 6537k55 (this is sized for 1/2" pipe).

But this has the right size coupling 6739k58 (but is not sized for 1/2" pipe)

The Garden hose is 1/2" pipe. This is where I want to put a FPT Socket on the garden hose. The Socket will then Fit onto the Plug that is FPT (the plug is screwed onto the MPT part of the chiller)

I concur those are the right parts for a FPT Plate Chiller, but mine is MPT. If your Male part were a Female Part it would make life happy. (6739k59)

The angry baby was giving off negative vibes when I posted stuff. I saw this picture and was awe struck....Angels sang.

Wait, that's the problem? Get a part# 4429K113

Half inch coupler, NPTxNPT. It will, uh, turn your male part into a female part. :tank:

My wife just said "I'm telling you, plumbing is perverted...nipples, couplings, male and female parts. It's so...dirty."

On a serious note, thank you very much for solving my problem. It's the little things we over look in life that make us so easily frustrated.

My whole rig uses those QD's. My 2 biggest issues with them is no female parts with mpt/fpt, only barb, and the males are only mpt, not fpt.

As the earlier post stated, the male issue is easily solved with a 1/2 coupling, the females with barbs only is less easy to solve.

I've been trying to deal with barbed females for years. Trust me, all females have barbs, and it's best you just stay away from them.

Use your imagination here. this is what I ordered.

top of the chiller is the hose connection:

(Left Water Out is MPT) (Right Water In is FPT)
Female Plug (6537k13) Male Plug (6537k93)

(Left Hose Male) (Right Hose Male)
Female Socket (6537k75) Female Socket (6537k75)

(Left Wort Out Male) (Right Wort In Male)
Coupler (4429k113) Coupler (4429k113)
Male Plug (6739k59) Male Plug (6739k59)

(Left wort Hose) (Right wort Hose)
Barbed Socket (6739k68) Barbed Socket (6739k68)

That chiller already has male and female Garden Hose Thread (GHT) which is 3/4" and not NPT at all. You'll have to use garden hose QDs for those.

Given the pricing on the brass parts, you could have saved some money with SS camlocks.

Bobby you still have the power to make me go :ban: thank you for correcting me on the hose thread
