I downloaded Brew Pal for my iPod and I am putting together a recipe for a Hefeweizen but my IBU's are way high.
My recipe is for a 5 gallon batch.
Grain bill is 4.2lbs Pale Ale
4.2lbs Wheat Malt
.5lbs Munich
.16lbs Crystal 40L
Hops are 4oz. Willamette 60min
2oz Cascade 20min
and my IBU is coming up at at 93 instead of around 10 or 12.
I'm not sure if it's the software or my selection of hops.
Thanks
Steve

Could't find pale ale in qbrew, but assuming your using a US version of pale malt, i'm assuming the SRM for it is about 2. this is what i came up with:

Brew Pal

Recipe Brew Pal Style Witbier
Brewer Vindee Batch 5.00 gal
All Grain

Recipe Characteristics
Recipe Gravity 1.049 OG Estimated FG 1.012 FG
Recipe Bitterness 75 IBU Alcohol by Volume 4.8%
Recipe Color 6° SRM Alcohol by Weight 3.7%

Ingredients
Quantity Grain Type Use
0.16 lb Crystal 40L Grain Mashed
0.50 lb Munich (US) Grain Mashed
4.20 lb Wheat (US) Grain Mashed
4.20 lb Lager Malt Grain Mashed
Quantity Hop Type Time
2.00 oz Cascade Pellet 20 minutes
4.00 oz Willamette Pellet 60 minutes
Quantity Misc Notes

Obviously both are different than what you were thinking..

This might be better?

The amount of hops you would be brewing did seem a bit high. I usually use .25 - .5 oz of each type of hops for my 2.5 gallon brews, unless i want it extra hoppy.

Thanks Butain,
I tried cutting the hops additions in half which didn't make much of a difference, so I will reduce them more like you suggest.
Thanks for taking the time to run this recipe through qbrew.
Steve

6oz of hops is insane for a hefe. im guessing that was supposed to be 0.4 and 0.2oz cuz that gets you 10ibus

Your right,
that was either a mistake or I just read it wrong.
I now have BeerSmith and running some recipes in there are showing in the range of 15 to 25 IBU's.
Thanks for the help
Steve
