Converting a cooler to a mash tun - Home Brewing Wiki

I just built the Rectangular manifold and I am about to make the slots.

My question is, are these slots "thin enough"? How important is the thickness of the slits?

I have a choice of using....

(from thinnest to thickest)

1. Hacksaw (physically hardest to do but thin)
2. Dremel with cutting disk
3. Grinder with 4" X .808" Diamond Blade (by far the easiest to do)

I imagine the thinner the better but what's the experience on the forum?

The thinner the better, IMO. This will keep out the small grain particles, and make clean up easier. I used a hack saw on mine, and it seems to work fine. If you turn the manifold over to where the slots are facing the bottom, it will help to keep grain out.

That's what I figured too. I better get a new blade then, since it's taking way too long for each cut.

WAIT! I just thought of my jigsaw! :rockin:
I'll put a metal saw on it and be done in no time :D
