Good Morning All,

I am getting ready to brew a 1 gal Brewers Best Kolsch Kit and my HBS gave me a couple of Wyeast Smack Packs to try out with one being yeast for Kolsch.

Can I incorporate this into this kit? I’ve been reading about making yeast starters first but no my sure how to do so and what impact they have in the final product.

As always, thanks for your suggestions and have a great day!

Cheers!:mug:

Yes you can use that yeast. There will be no need to do a starter.

The smack pack will have enough yeast to do a 5gal batch. Follow the instructions on the smack pack, but don't put all of it into your 1gal batch.

Sanitize (boil then cool) a small glass jar with a good seal, and save half to 2/3 of it for your next batch(es). Store it in the fridge.

Before using it in your next batch, pull it out of the fridge several hours before you need it, and let it come up to room temperature (with a loose cap, it will expand).
